Logan Director Still Interested In X-23 Movie

It's been a while since Logan released, but it looks like James Mangold is still interested in making a spin-off movie starring Laura Kinney, the mutant X-Men fans know as X-23.

Mangold recently spoke in an interview with The Playlist at the Mill Valley Film Festival to help promote his upcoming historical drama Ford v Ferrari. During the discussion, the filmmaker was asked whether he was still interested in writing and directing a movie about X-23. Mangold seemed pretty into the idea of a Logan spinoff, though he isn't really sure whether the film is going to happen in the near future.

"Do I have an interest? Yes. Will it happen? At least in the near future, I doubt it," the director responded.

For those who aren't familiar with Laura Kinney (and we doubt that there are readers who haven't come to know the character after Logan), X-23 came from the DNA of Wolverine. The mutant has very similar powers as Logan with a couple of retractable adamantium claws on each of her hands, the ability to heal swiftly, and the gift of preternatural agility.

Like Mangold, X-Men fans began to clamor for more of X-23 after seeing Dafne Keen's ferocious performance in Logan, however, now that Disney's purchased 21st Century Fox, we can't be really sure whether we'll get to see a spinoff movie focused on Kinney. Disney doesn't have any plans on continuing the X-Men franchise after X-Men: The Dark Phoenix bombed at the box office, opting to reboot the mutant franchise over at Marvel.
