Kevin Feige Says Captain Marvel Standalone Is A 'Different Type Of Origin Story'

Marvel fans might have had their fair share of origin movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but President Kevin Feige promises the fanbase that they're definitely going to get a "different type of origin story" in Brie Larson's Captain Marvel.

Speaking with Variety during this year's British Academy Britannia Awards, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was asked for more updates about Captain Marvel. The upcoming standalone movie is the studio's very first female-led superhero film, and it features a hero that many consider to be the strongest avenger – Carol Danver's Captain Marvel.

Not only did Feige praise the film's cast and its progress in production, but the Marvel executive also hyped up the movie.

"This one is very different and very exciting... It takes place in the 1990s and while it is an origin story of our hero, it is a very different type of origin story, which we're excited to unveil to audiences," Feige told the publication.

Marvel has seen quite a number of origin movies, so we wonder just how the studio might try to spice things up with Captain Marvel. What kind of plot devices will the studio use? What kind of style will Captain Marvel take? And more importantly, how far apart will Captain Marvel's MCU origin will be from the character's origin in the comics?

Marvel Studios has taken creative liberties with its many films, so it won't be that surprising to see the studio tweaking some parts of Carol Danvers' comic book origin.

Captain Marvel hits cinemas March 8, 2019.
