Kanye West Plans To Build Star Wars-Inspired Homes For The Homeless

It looks like music icon Kanye West is building a shelter for the homeless inspired by George Lucas' original Star Wars movie, A New Hope.

Forbes just recently did a cover story on Kanye West this month, and during the interview for the feature, the musician decides to take Zack O'Malley Greenberg to the site of one his latest projects – housing for the homeless. Showing off "oblong and dozens of feet tall" prototypes, West shows Greenberg shelter "inspired by Luke Skywalker's childhood home."

For those who need a bit of a refresher, this refers to Luke's little homestead on the dusty planet of Tatooine. Adopted by his uncle Owen and Aunt Beru Lars, Luke is raised as a farmer boy living in a small-ish igloo in the middle of the Tatooine desert.

According to Forbes, West has been working together with a team "to design prefabricated structures that sport the same austere aesthetic with the goal of deploying them as low-income housing units."

It's a charitable project, one that makes use of West's long history with the Star Wars franchise. The music icon's always been fond of Lucasfilm's galaxy far, far away. References to the space opera frequently make their way to the lyrics of his song. Last year, the musician also appeared together with Kylo Ren actor Adam Driver in an episode of Saturday Night Live.

Now, it looks like Kanye is giving to the homeless, in a grand, Star Wars fashion. We can't wait to see how his housing project turns out.

Lucasfilm's latest release, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, premieres December 20, 2019.
