Justice League Script Changes Were Made Even Before Joss Whedon Came On Board

It looks like Joss Whedon might not be the only person to blame for the outcome of Justice League, because according to a new report, the script drama behind the superhero movie began well before the Marvel filmmaker took over as director for Zack Snyder.

After learning that DC President Geoff Johns was stepping down as the company's CCO, Kyle Buchanan, a writer from Vulture, went on Twitter to reveal that Johns was actually one of the biggest figures in the script drama of Justice League early during the development of the movie.

According to Buchanan, Johns was the one who had spearhead the script changes for Justice League while the film was in the middle of production, creating problems with the film's original writer, Chris Terrio. Warner Bros also allegedly created a "footage summit," meeting other writers about what they could do with the film. That summit included Whedon, Allan Heinberg, Seth Grahame-Smith, and Andrea Berloff. After hearing the feedback of all the writers, the studio then decided to hire Whedon.

Though we already know that Whedon started working on Justice League before Snyder left to grieve the passing of his daughter, this new report sheds a new light on the matter, revealing that the former Avengers director had been consulted for Justice League much earlier than we had actually known.

What's pretty clear now though is that Warner Bros. was constantly changing Justice League even while the film was in production, soliciting advice from other creatives while Snyder was busy working on the film.

Now we know why Justice League was a fumbling mess that it was. Warner Bros. should really learn to respect and trust the directors they hire. It's such a shame that Justice League had to turn out the way it did.
