Joker Lost Its Rotten Tomatoes Certified Fresh Score

Joker may have yet to release on the big screen, but it looks like the critically-acclaimed comic book movie is already losing points on Rotten Tomatoes.

The film was rated Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes after its global premiere at the Venice Film Festival earlier this year, earning rave reviews from critics who were able to see the film during early screenings. Now, it looks like Joker has lost its Fresh status on the review aggregator website.

According to a report by ComicBook.com,Joker dipped below the 70% rating, making the film lose its Certified Fresh mark. For those who don't know how Rotten Tomatoes Fresh and Rotten scoring works, films have to score 70% or above to be Certified Fresh. If a film scores below that, then it's considered Rotten.

It seems like Joker's rating went down to 69% today, turning the film into a Rotten movie. It seems like critics who've just recently seen Todd Phillip's graphic character study aren't as awed by the film as those who've seen it during its global premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

There's been a lot of controversy surrounding Joker the past few months. There's been a growing concern about the film's potential to incite real-life violence. Families of the victims of the Aurora Dark Knight Rises shootings have written about their concern to Warner Brothers. The military has reported that there has been at least one "credible report" of a mass shooting. The New York Police Department has also confirmed that it would be patrolling Joker's screenings during opening weekend to ensure that violent incidents won't occur.

Luckily, it seems like the Rotten Tomatoes dip didn't last that long. Right now, Joker is back to its Certified Fresh Rating.

Joker premieres tomorrow, October 4, 2019.
