Joker Gets R-Rating For Disturbing Behavior And For Violence

It looks like Todd Phillip's The Joker movie finally has its official rating from the MPAA.

The official Jokerwebsite has just been updated to reveal the film's R-rating, one that's been earned because of the movie's strong bloody violence, language, disturbing behavior, and brief sexual images. While this might sound a bit disappointing to younger DC fans looking forward to the film, the R-Rating doesn't really come as a surprise.

Phillips never really planned to develop a regular comic book movie when he began the Joker. In fact, most of the cast and crew of the film consider the film less of a superhero movie and more of a gritty character study of one of the most complex characters in Batman's list of villains. The movie wouldn't have nabbed Academy Award-winning actor Joaquin Phoenix for anything less.

The trailer footage alone promises fans an unhinged performance from the Walk Alone and the Her actor – there was a whole lot of talk after the very first trailer for the Joker dropped on the internet, wowing fans with a performance that many believe could potentially rival Heath Ledger's in The Dark Knight.

It's interesting to see how the MPAA singled the film out for "disturbing behavior." It sounds like Phoenix is going to go all out in the movie, allowing Gotham's Clown Prince of Crime to hold nothing back when he goes on terrorizing Gotham. We can't wait to see what kind of discussions Joker is going to produce when it finally releases this year.

Joker is set to premiere on October 4, 2019.
