Joker 'Absolutely' Going To Be Considered For The Oscars

Joker is definitely building up to be a critical must-watch movie. Not only is the film expected to break ground in the comic book movie genre, but so many critics believe that the film is going to win big at the Hollywood awards circuit.

Venice Film Festival Event director Alberto Barbera went on an interview with Deadline during the halfway point of this year's iteration of the festival, and according to the organizer, Joker is going to be a major awards contender especially with Joaquin Phoenix playing Arthur Fleck.

"I think they made a good choice. The right choice. The film deserves the reception it is getting," Barbera told the entertainment news outlet, "It goes beyond the boundaries of the genre. Joaquin Phoenix's performance is outstanding and Todd Phillips did a great job."

Barbera was also asked about the odds of the Joker nabbing a few nominations at this season's Academy Awards season, and according to the Venice Film Festival director, the upcoming DC movie is definitely going to be considered.

"They're very good. Absolutely it will be in the running," Barbera said.

The event director seems to have a lot of faith in the film. While some believe that the film could be a bit too gritty and dark for the awards circuit, Barbera says that the film's complex subject matter wouldn't be a problem. Barbera says that the Joker movie is unexpected, original, and intelligent. This only makes us even more excited to see Todd Phillipps new movie. We definitely can't wait for the film's premiere.

Joker is screening on October 4, 2019.
