Jojo Rabbit Early Reactions Call Taika Waititi’s Latest Movie ‘Irreverent,’ ‘Sweet,’ And ‘Bonkers’

Jojo Rabbit might seem like a strange film with a premise that allows viewers to explore the life of a young German boy in World War II who has a silly version of Adolph Hitler as his imaginary friend, but it looks like the movie's getting a lot of positive reviews.

Taika Waititi's latest film is set for release this October, however, now that the film's had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, early reactions to the movie have started pouring in, and they're all pretty great.

Film critics have been taking to Twitter to share some of their thoughts on the Thor: Ragnarok director's latest movie outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and most reviews describe the film as a sweet and unusual coming-of-age love story set in Nazi Germany.

Not only is the film described as "unapologetically unique," "irreverent," "bonkers," but it's also been called an official favorite of this year's Toronto International Film Festival.

Of course, there are others who don't feel like Jojo Rabbit is as wonderful as others would believe. The film only has a 75% score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the site's critical consensus understands that the film's "blend of irreverent humor and serious ideas definitely won't be to everyone's taste."

That shouldn't really come as a surprise though. The film's setting in Nazi Germany and it's imaginary Adolf Hitler could make it a bit of a controversial movie.

Jojo Rabbit is expected to release on October 18, 2019.
