James Gunn Wants Something Different For His Suicide Squad Movie

Marvel fans might be eagerly waiting for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but before James Gunn can return to direct the third installment in his cosmic franchise, the director is set to work on Suicide Squad 2.

Luckily, it seems like Gunn is going to film The Suicide Squad pretty soon in Atlanta, Georgia and it looks like the filmmaker is teasing something different for his first DC comic book movie. Taking to social media, Gunn was asked by a fan whether he was actually going to make a sequel or a reboot when he'd start making Suicide Squad 2.

"Are those my only two choices?" the director replied.

HUMOR: What did he mean by this?

Though Gunn didn't really give anything away, the filmmaker's answer implies that he might try at a different direction aside from having Suicide Squad 2 as a reboot or as a direct sequel to the original movie by David Ayer. However, from the way things are going, it seems like Gunn may be in favor for a reboot than a straight-up sequel. Not only does the movie share the same title, but it's also bringing in some of the original stars like Margot Robbie, Suicide Squad's Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, and Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag. There have also been rumors that Idris Elba would replace Will Smith as the DC Extended Universe's Deadshot.

We can't wait to learn more about what Gunn has planned for The Suicide Squad.

The Suicide Squad is set for release on August 6, 2021.
