James Gunn Hints at His Exit From Guardians of the Galaxy Film Franchise

It looks like Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn won't be sticking to the franchise for too long.

Sure, fans might be excited to see Gunn return to helm Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, however, the latest installment in Marvel's cosmic comic book movie franchise may be the last entry with Gunn at the helm.

Taking to Instagram to answer fans' queries during an impromptu question and answer session on the social media platform (via Heroic Hollywood), the Marvel director was asked whether or not he would return for another movie with everyone's favorite group of space misfits after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Unfortunately, it seems like Gunn is unsure about his future in the franchise.

"It's probably my last one," Gunn responded on the social media platform, "and probably the last with the current team. But you never know!"

We understand that Marvel would probably want to explore different iterations of the Guardians after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The studio probably wants fresh new faces to accompany Phase 4 and Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Right now, there's very little information on what Gunn has planned for his third Guardians movie, however, fans are expecting to see Chris Hemsworth reprise his role as Thor together with Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket Racoon (Bradley Cooper), Groot (Vin Diesel), and Mantis (Pom Klementieff). After all, Thor did accompany the Guardians towards the end of Avengers: Endgame. It would only make sense to see Thor along for the ride.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has yet to receive a release date but we'll update fans as soon as we get word.
