James Gunn Confirms Doctor Who Star Peter Capaldi’s 'Big Role' in The Suicide Squad

It looks like James Gunn has pretty big plans for Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi.

Earlier this year, DC fans learned that Gunn was recruiting the Scottish actor for an undisclosed role in his upcoming DC Extended Universe movie, The Suicide Squad. Though Capaldi has managed to attract quite a fanbase after starring in The Thick of It and in BBC's longest-running science-fiction series, Doctor Who, some questioned the relevance of the actor's roll in the upcoming DCEU movie.

Not every actor would have a major role in The Suicide Squad. The film already had such a star-studded cast.

Though fans didn't really expect Capaldi to do much in the movie, Gunn has confirmed that the Doctor Who star would take on a major role in the upcoming film. Commenting on one of Gunn's Instagram posts, a fan decided to ask the Guardians of the Galaxy director what kind of role Capaldi would have in the movie, wondering out loud whether the actor would have "a cameo" or a "big role to play in the movie."

Though Gunn didn't say much, he did say that the actor "has a big role" in the movie.

This means that we'll probably get to see the actor in more than two or three scenes – though we can only wonder what kind of role the actor is going to play in the movie.

Aside from Capaldi, The Suicide Squad is set to feature Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman, Idris Elba, Nathan Fillion, Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, David Dastmalchian, Taika Waititi, and John Cena.

The Suicide Squad is set to release on August 6, 2021.
