Iron Man Movie Writers On Tony Stark’s Fate In Avengers: Endgame

Tony Stark's (Robert Downey Jr) fate in Avengers: Endgame might have already been unexpected, but that doesn't make the sacrifice that the franchise's first-ever Avenger made for the good of the people any less heartbreaking.

Now, as Endgame wraps up its theatrical release, we see original Iron Man screenwriters Art Marcum and Matt Holloway react towards the death of Iron Man. The two screenwriters just recently attended the red carpet premiere of their latest project, Men in Black International. During the premiere, Marcum and Holloway got to speak in an interview with IGN. During their discussion with the entertainment news outlet, the writers were asked how they felt about Joe and Anthony Russo and the filmmakers' recent release, Endgame.

Responding to the question, Marcum insisted that having the genius billionaire making the ultimate sacrifice in Endgame could only make sense.

"It's sad, but it had to be that way," Marcum told IGN.

According to the writers, they didn't really know that Iron Man would become the foundation of the MCU.

"What's surreal about that is ten years ago, we had no idea any of that stuff was going to happen. When we were all coming up with the first movie with Jon Favreau and Kevin Feige, we were just hoping, 'God, I hope this movie works.' We weren't thinking about ten years and however many dozens of sequels there's been. Really, you look back at that and you're happy that everybody has seen so many movies and have fallen in love with all these different characters that sprang from the MCU," Marcum detailed.

Now, years after writing Iron Man, we see Tony Stark's growth as a hero, Avenger, and as a character.

It really is heartbreaking to see him go. It's been an honor, Iron Man.
