The Marvel community was shaken earlier this week when the news broke out that Sony's Spider-Man agreement with Disney fell apart, breaking the hearts of fans all around the globe. Marvel fans fell in love with Tom Holland's Spider-Man ever since he was first introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: Civil War, and everyone loved the way Peter Parker interacted with the rest of the Avengers, forming major bonds with fan-favorite characters like Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.).
While most fans have been trying to figure out whether the blame was to lay on Sony or whether Disney was the one at fault for the failed negotiations, analysts believe that Fox's X-Men movie, Dark Phoenix, may have had a hand at breaking Spider-Man's run in the MCU.
Variety just recently wrote an in-depth article covering the Spider-Man split, and according to the entertainment news outlet, a number of industry analysts are putting the blame on Dark Phoenix.
According to the publication, one insider believes that Disney was motivated to walk away from Sony's deal because the studio wanted Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige to focus on the Mickey Mouse House's newly-acquired properties from Fox.
"After ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix' bombed, one person familiar with Walt Disney Studios said co-chairman Alan Bergman insisted talks with Sony end. Another insider disputed ‘Dark Phoenix' as a motivator, but said Bergman led the charge on the Spider-Man deal," the site revealed.
It looks like Dark Phoenix has been taking a whole lot of blame for the past few weeks. Disney also pointed at the film after the company experienced major losses during the third quarter of the financial year. Then again, it's hard not to – the film did bomb pretty hard at the box office.
Spider-Man: Far From Home is expected to receive its digital release sometime in October this year.
