Incredibles 2 Might Just Beat Avengers: Age Of Ultron At The Box Office This Weekend

It looks like Incredibles 2 is set to pass Avengers: Age of Ultron this weekend.

According to Box Office Pro, estimates for Incredibles 2 suggest that the film is going to rake in $27.3 million at the domestic box office during its fourth weekend in cinemas, taking its total domestic box office earnings to $500 million. That's about $40 million more than what Age of Ultron made, making it the fifth highest-grossing superhero movie of all time in North America.

Incredibles 2's success doesn't come as a surprise. Though the film didn't quite surpass its groundbreaking predecessor, the original Incredibles movie, it was able to do pretty well, gaining the support of both fans and critics. Not only was the film entertaining, it was also pretty complex, dealing with gender roles, stay-at-home parenting, the role of media, feminism, and other important topics.

Of course, that's to be expected of Brad Bird, the director of the original Incredibles film, but after the commercial and critical disappointment of Tomorrowland, Incredibles 2's success comes off as a great return to form for the filmmaker.

Though there isn't any confirmation of another Incredibles sequel just yet, Bird has expressed interest in another film. Besides, Incredibles 2 left with another opening for a sequel, so who knows really. Hopefully, it won't take another 14 years.
