Here’s Why Kylo Ren’s Death In Star Wars: Episode IX Is Almost Inevitable

Adam Driver's Kylo Ren has been one of the most complex characters in the Star Wars saga. Over the past two Star Wars films, fans have seen the estranged son of Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Leia (the late Carrie Fisher) struggle with the darkness and light residing in him. However, while many fans are hoping to see Kylo Ren redeem himself in Star Wars: Episode IX, there's a popular theory running around online saying that Ben Solo may very well die in the final sequel trilogy installment.

According to a new report by Inverse, Kylo Ren's trajectory from Star Wars: The Force Awakens to Star Wars: The Last Jedi might suggest the characters death in Episode IX. Out of all the characters in the sequel trilogy, Kylo Ren has changed the most, turning from the lost and conflicted apprentice of Supreme Leader Snoke to a decisive villain whose main goal is to "let old things die. Snoke. Skywalker. The Sith. The Jedi. The Rebels. Let it all die."

In The Last Jedi, fans get to see Kylo Ren aware of his own agency, taking matters into his own hands when he slices his master in half during that climactic battle scene on Snoke's ship, the Supremacy. At the end of the film, Kylo Ren takes Snoke's name as Supreme Leader of the First Order, and the character spirals further into darkness as he pursues the remainder of the Resistance.

While it's still possible that we'll get to see Kylo Ren turning to the light at the very end of Episode IX, Inverse suggests that the only way the character could possibly redeem himself is to "save Rey (Daisy Ridley) or Finn (John Boyega) in an act of self-sacrifice."

This would be the only way to get the audience to forgive the character for all that he's done throughout the trilogy – namely killing Han, his father.

What are your thoughts on Kylo Ren's fate? Do you think Ben is going to die in Episode IX?

Star Wars: Episode IX hits cinemas December 20, 2019.
