Star Wars fans may not have been expecting another live-action series from Lucasfilm, but earlier today Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that the studio was developing a brand new Rogue One: A Star Wars Story prequel series.
Set to air on the Mickey Mouse House’s Disney+ streaming service, the Rogue One live-action prequel series is putting the spotlight on the adventures of Captain Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) and fans couldn’t be more excited.
Responding to the news on social media, fans have been gushing non-stop about the new show, claiming that Cassian was the best character in Rogue One and openly hoping that they get to see the moment where Cassian meets with the sassy droid K-2SO (Alan Tudyk).
There’s also a lot of jokes spread across Twitter, some poking fun at “the further adventures of Cassian Andor as his atoms travel the galaxy as space dust,” and others reminding Lucasflm to let the Rebel spy “touch Jabba.”
It’s definitely an exciting time for Star Wars fans right now, though the news of this new series certainly came out of nowhere. Described as a “rousing spy thriller,” this new Rogue One prequel series is set to explore Cassian’s adventures during the formative years of the Rebellion, giving fans episodes filled with “espionage and daring mission to restore hope to the galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire.”
In an interview with Lucasfilm, Luna couldn’t help but express excitement over his return to the Star Wars franchise.
“Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me,” Luna said. “I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.”
Lucasfilm’s Rogue One prequel series has yet to receive a name and a release date, but keep posted for more updates.
