Henry Cavill Ended Up Being In The Witcher Because Of Superman Talks Breaking Down

There were a lot of different reactions when word came out that DC Extended Universe Superman star Henry Cavill was going to play Geralt in Netflix's The Witcher series. While some were thrilled that the Man of Steel actor would take on the role, others weren't too sure of his casting.

Now, it looks like fans might finally have the reason why Cavill was cast in The Witcher. Word broke out today that Cavill might not be reprising his role as Superman in upcoming DCEU projects, mostly because of Warner Brothers shifting focus.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has been leaning in towards a Supergirl origin movie that would feature Kal-El's cousin. Though Superman and Supergirl have co-existed, DC lore demands that Kal-El would be much younger when Supergirl comes out, removing Cavill from the equation.

Not only that, but rumor has it that the studio has no plan to make another Superman standalone movie "for at least several years."

With so much uncertainty, it's understandable that Cavill would try to look for other projects while he and Warner Brothers are currently at an impasse. Though fans still hope that Cavill will still make appearances in the DCEU, right now Superman has very little to do with the franchise, giving the actor time to jump on to The Witcher project.
