Guardians Director James Gunn Reveals Thor: Love And Thunder’s Timeline

Fans following Chris Hemsworth's Thor and director Taika Waititi have had a pretty busy few weeks.

Just before Marvel headed to this year's San Diego Comic-Con, word came out that Marvel was hiring back Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi for Thor 4. A few days after that, Marvel revealed that the fourth Thor installment was going to be named Thor: Love and Thunder, a film that would feature Natalie Portman's Jane Foster as the new Asgardian God of Thunder.

The announcement might have come as a surprise to fans seeing how Jane Foster's been MIA in the Marvel Cinematic Universe the past few years, Thor 4 focusing on Jane Foster allows Erik Odinson to continue his romp with the Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and the rest of the Guardians in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Now, interacting with fans on Instagram, Guardians director James Gun confirms that Thor: Love and Thunder is actually going to take place long before the events of GOTG 3.

Fans shouldn't be as shocked. Love and Thunder is set for release sometime in 2021. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, on the other hand, has yet to receive a release date.

Of course, this means that Love and Thunder has a lot of room to feature a bit of Hemsworth's version of Thor before he continues on with his cosmic adventure with the Guardians – a romp that was teased during the final scene of Avengers: Endgame.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set for release on November 5, 2021.
