George Lucas Reportedly Brought in for Star Wars: Episode IX After Disastrous Test Screenings

There might be a lot of anticipation building up over Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but it looks like there are rumors going around saying Disney has decided to bring George Lucas back in to help fix the highly anticipated Star Wars movie.

New reports claim that test screenings for Episode IX have been a disaster, and now Disney is trying to patch the movie together using all means possible.

According to a new post on the Overlord DVD channel, sources say that Lucasfilm's test screenings for The Rise of Skywalker have ended up being a major disaster.

The sources further claim there are currently three cuts of Episode IX, the first one made by J.J. Abrams and by Kathleen Kennedy. Test screenings for the first cut by Abrams have had negative results. Audiences have reportedly issued a failing score of 65 for the movie with the second act being scored at 12, and the third act being scored at a 4.

One of the main concerns about the screening was that Abrams' cut made Rey an overpowered character, destroying the Emperor in such a comic manner that screeners end up bursting into laughter.

Because of these problems, Disney has decided to create two other cuts of the film. One cut was made to fit the requirements placed by Disney CEO Bob Iger, and the other was made by Lucas himself.

It's alarming to hear reports like this make the rounds online. There's a lot riding on The Rise of Skywalker – not only is the movie supposed to serve as the final chapter in Lucasfilm's sequel trilogy, but it's also supposed to serve as the final entry in the Skywalker saga.

Of course, as with any rumor being peddled online, we advise fans to take these claims with a grain of salt. Let's just wait and see what becomes of Episode IX.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
