Game Of Thrones Fans See Darth Vader In The Mountain

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Game of Thrones season 8 episode 5.

HBO aired the second to the last episode of Game of Thrones' final season today, and not only did we see the final battle between Danaerys (Emilia Clarke) and Cersei (Lena Headey), but we also got to see the final showdown between the Hound (Rory McCann) and the Mountain (Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson ).

The battle between brothers was pretty intense, and the fight managed to expose Gregor Clegane's face, revealing an uncanny resemblance to Star Wars' unmasked version of Darth Vader which fans get to see in Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi.

Taking to Twitter, fans have been pointing out the likeness between the two, posting photos comparing the Mountain with one of the most iconic villains in history.

Check it out down here:

Of course, The Mountain doesn't have the same power and complexity as Vader.

He's still a pretty strong villain though. In Game of Thrones' Clegane Bowl, The Mountain stands strong despite the many, many times that The Hound guts him with his sword. The only way that Gregor manages to defeat his older brother is when he rams The Mountain off the side of the Red Keep, resigning himself to death together with one of his greatest foes.

Guess Game of Thrones fans finally got the battle they were waiting for.

Now, with Kings' Landing destroyed and the Clegane Bowl come and gone, HBO's fantasy epic moves on to its final episode.

Game of Thrones season 8 airs every Sunday at 9 pm ET on HBO.
