Fox Executive Forced To Relinquish Control Of Deadpool And Other Characters To Marvel

It looks like 20th Century Fox's Deadpool and other Marvel characters are now fully in Marvel's hands.

While 20th Century Fox Film vice chairman Emma Watts has been asked to stay on board the Fox film division, Deadline reports that the Fox executive was forced to give up control of the studio's Marvel mutant characters to the capable hands of Marvel and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige.

Before this report, many industry analysts believed that Watts would continue her role as an executive, keeping control over Deadpool as part of the deal. However, it seems like the Fox vice-chairman was incentivized to relinquish the Merc with a Mouth along with other Marvel characters to Feige. Watts is remaining at Fox only to oversee other properties, including James Cameron's Avatar sequels.

This might come as a surprise. Disney previously said that it would do nothing to change the Deadpool franchise, seeing how successful it already is. Yet, it seems like Marvel is taking charge over Ryan Reynold's Merc with a Mouth.

Does this mean that Marvel intends to add Wade Wilson to its roster of heroes? Does this mean that we'll get to see Deadpool fight alongside the Avengers in the MCU?

We were hoping to get a little bit of word regarding the future of Fox's different Marvel characters during the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con International last weekend, however, Marvel Studios was more focused on laying out its slate for Phase 4 of the MCU. Hopefully, the studio will announce its plans for the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Deadpool and all of other Fox's mutants in Disney's D23 Expo.
