Fans Divided Over Rumors That Marvel Will Turn Professor X And Magneto Into POC

Last week, word came out that Marvel was considering bending the race of major X-Men characters like Wolverine, Professor X, and Magneto. Marvel has been making major strides in increasing representation and diversity in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with films like Captain Marvel and Black Panther, and there have been rumors going around saying that the studio would turn the X-Men into people of color.

Hearing about these reports, Marvel fans have taken to Twitter to voice their approval and disapproval of the rumors saying that Marvel would cast people of color as Magneto and Professor X in the MCU.

To some fans, turning the X-Men into people of color makes sense, saying that it's only right for Marvel to race bend the heroes knowing that the X-Men were created by Stan Lee as a commentary on discrimination. Lee used the X-Men as a metaphor for the Civil Rights Movement back in the '60s. To comic book readers, it would only be right to see iconic X-Men characters like Magneto and Professor X be played by people of color.

Other fans aren't too keen on the race bending though. Some would rather have Marvel stay true to the source material if the studio plans to bring the X-Men into the MCU.

While these rumors might be causing a major divide among fans, readers ought to remember that everyone is free to have their own opinion on the matter. The key is to remain civil in discussing this issue with others.
