Episode IX Spoilers: The Star Wars Show Confirms The Fate Of The Skywalker Lightsaber

Lucasfilm might be keeping Star Wars: Episode IX's secrets close to its chest before the film premieres but it looks like the studio's letting fans in on one little secret – the fate of the Skywalker lightsaber.

There's been a lot of speculation regarding the lightsaber that Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) snapped into two while fighting on the Supremacy in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Some hope that Rey might find a way to fix together Luke's saber in Episode IX. Others hope that the Force-sensitive Jakku orphan might get a lightsaber of her own when the third and final installment in Lucasfilm's Star Wars sequel trilogy comes knocking around.

Now, thanks to The Star Wars Show, fans finally get to learn about what happens to the lightsaber after Episode IX. During a segment in the behind-the-scenes Star Wars series, The Star Wars Show's hosts Anthony Carboni and Andi Gutierrez head down to Lucasfilm's headquarters in San Francisco to check out a new batch of films props that have been put up on display. One of the props in the building was the torn Skywalker lightsaber.

Knowing how much history the lightsaber holds and how important the item is to The Last Jedi, Gutierrez and Carboni scrutinize the weapon, seeing that the Kyber Crystal of the lightsaber had been broken beyond repair. Without its Kyber Crystal, the Skywalker lightsaber will never see repair, putting the weapon's appearance in Episode IX into question. Maybe Rey will get a lightsaber of her own. Or she could try to look for the lightsaber that Luke had in The Return of the Jedi. Let's wait and see.

Star Wars: Episode IX hits cinemas December 20, 2019.
