It looks like Edinburgh’s local Film Commission is hoping that Disney holds a film premiere for Avengers: Infinity in the capital of Scotland after shooting scenes in the city.
Sitting down to speak with the Forth One (via Edinburgh News), Film Edinburgh manager Rosie Ellison suggested that it would be feasible for Edinburgh to host a premiere event for the highly anticipated Marvel film following the success of the release of Danny Boyle’s T2 Trainspotting .
“They tried pretty much every restaurant in town, they were all zipping off to play golf, the reports back say they’d love to come back again. Given that Disney are used to doing it in the UK, a hop up from London to Edinburgh is a very short distance.”
There isn’t any certainty of an Edinburgh premiere for Infinity War just yet, but director Anthony Russo did previously say that he’d love to return to the city for a special premiere.
“We haven’t got to the point where we can have specific plans about this yet, but I am definitely hoping that we do a very special premiere in Edinburgh. “I can’t promise that – we have to work through it with Marvel and Disney – but that is an experience we would love to have. Edinburgh is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited – it’s very intoxicating for me.”
It’s pretty understandable that Film Edinburgh would want Disney to hold an Avengers: Infinity War premiere in the capital – the production did film in the city for over 6 weeks, shooting in the Royal Mile, the Waverley Station and in a warehouse in Leith. It would be only be right for Disney to recognize the city’s contribution.
Avengers: Infinity War premieres in the US on May 4, 2018.
