Star Wars gamers have been having quite a week. Not only did EA release a campaign trailer for its upcoming dogfight videogame Star Wars Squadrons, but Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment also dropped its very first preview of the highly anticipated LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.
Today, EA’s decided to drop even more Star Wars news, announcing (via The Washington Post) its upcoming story-driven Star Wars game pack for The Sims 4. Set for release on September 8, the upcoming DLC “Star Wars: Journey to Batuu” will introduce a Star Wars-themed area in Sims 4.
Allowing sims to travel to the BlackSpire Outpost on the planet of Batuu, the new Sims 4 Star Wars DLC will offer familiar characters, destinations, and ships from the galaxy far, far away. That includes sequel trilogy heroes Rey Skywalker and Kylo Ren. It even includes the Millennium Falcon. Sims gamers can also play classic Star Wars games like Sabacc in Oga’s Cantina.
“The Sims has always been about letting players tell their own stories and explore a lot of different aspects,” said The Sims executive producer and general manager Lyndsay Pearson, “That feels very complementary to the way that we were approaching ‘Journey to Batuu,' which is: ‘What is your story in this universe? How do you want to be a part of this?’”
“Journey to Batuu” also offers simmers an overarching story – a surprising element in The Sims gaming series. The DLC allows gamers to choose different factions to side with like The Resistance, the First Order, and the rebels fighting for control over the planet.
As exciting as this new DLC might be, Simmers have to be reminded that “Star Wars: Journey to Batuu” is a destination world. Sims can’t live on Batuu full-time, they can only pay visits to the planet – although the destination location does have a home base where sims can get their basic needs.
“Star Wars: Journey to Batuu” is set to release on September 8, 2020.
