Donald Glover Talks About Billy Dee Williams Advice on Playing Solo: A Star Wars Story’s Lando

It looks like Donald Glover got Billy Dee Williams to give him a few tips on how to play Star Wars smoothest scoundrel, Lando Calrissian.

Though the character didn't get as much screen time as Luke (Mark Hamill), Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Han (Harrison Ford), Lando made quite an impression on the Star Wars fanbase when he debuted in The Empire Strikes Back, and ever since then, the smuggler's been a favorite.

Sitting down to speak with Entertainment Weekly, Lucasfilm's young Lando star opened up about meeting with Williams to talk about Star Wars smoothest talker.

"It was really, really relaxed. He was great. I mean, I had a lot of questions," Glover said. "And then he just told me, just be charming. [Laughs] And so, I was like, 'Okay!' I just kind of did that. He said, 'Just be interested in things.' Lando has, I wouldn't say eccentric, but eclectic tastes. So I tried to work that into the role as much as possible."

Glover's always been a big Star Wars fan and the Atlanta actor and director has also claimed fondness for Lando. In a different interview with Esquire, the actor talked about how long he's been in love with Lucasfilm's galaxy far, far away, saying that he slept with a Lando figurine when he was younger. Glover's certainly got the charm and the credentials to play Lando.

Solo: A Star Wars Story flies into cinemas on May 25, 2018.
