Doctor Who Shares First New Photo From Its New Year’s Day Special

Whovians might have been disappointed when they got word that Doctor Who would be skipping its traditional Christmas Special in exchange for a New Year's Day version of its holiday episode, but it looks like there's still going to be a whole lot of fireworks for everyone. BBC just released a brand new photo of Jodie Whitaker's new Doctor Who, and not only do we get to see the Doctor Showered in lights, we also get to see her with a brand new sweater.

Posting on the official BBC Ameria Twitter account, BBC decided to share its first look at Jodie Whitaker's Doctor for the upcoming New Year's Special next year. Bundled up in a vivid and colorful scarf that many believe to be a homage to the Fourth Doctor of Tom Baker, the Thirteenth Doctor has a soft smile on her face as she stands in front of a background filled with fireworks.

Of course, while fans have a lot to look forward to with the upcoming New Year's Special, BBC's new holiday episode makes for a big change in Doctor Who. Ever since the arrival of the modern era of the iconic science fiction series, fans have been looking forward to the series' Christmas Special, the first one introducing the lovable Tenth Doctor played by David Tenant.

But still, with Whitaker is the new Doctor, it doesn't come as surprise to see Doctor Who breaking tradition this year - we can't wait to see what BBC has in store for us in New Years.

Doctor Who airs every Sunday at 8 pm EST on BBC America.
