Doctor Who Season 11: The TARDIS New Design Draws Mixed Reaction From Fans

Jodie Whittaker's first season of Doctor Who continued with its second episode ON BBC One last Sunday night and fans seem to have mixed feelings over the unveiling of the Doctor's new TARDIS during the show.

Titled The Ghost Monument the second episode of the eleventh season of Doctor Who had Whittaker's Doctor fight alongside her new friends in a battle to stay alive. Bearing similarities with some of the iconic series earliest stories like the 1964 episode Marco Polo, this new episode of Doctor Who has the Doctor and her friends being placed in a hostile alien environment without the TARDIS to save them.

Of course, the TARDIS does eventually show up in the episode, and this time with a new design. A bit similar to the TARDIS in Christopher Eccleston's 2005 Doctor Who, the time-traveling police box's interior is speckled with jutting crystals that hold up the inner structure.

Empyreal and cosmic-looking, some fans couldn't help but cry over the new design of the TARDIS, taking to Twitter to gush over the police box.

Others, on the other hand, weren't all that happy, calling the TARDIS ugly and less homey compared to the previous designs of the police box in previous iterations of Doctor Who.

Of course, different kinds people will have differing opinions about the TARDIS' new design. The only question is whether these opinions can be changed through the course of the season and through the course of Whittaker's stay as the Doctor.

Doctor Who continues with its third episode at 6:55 pm on Sunday on BBC One.
