Disney+ Subscriber Discovers Movies with Expiration Dates

It looks like Disney wasn't being totally honest when it promised that its library for Disney+ would be available on the streaming site forever.

Disney+ launched earlier this week and subscribers have been busy going through the Mickey Mouse House's brand new streaming service. After some deep digging on the site, one eagle-eyed user was able to uncover an alarming discovery – there are movies and television series on Disney+ that have "expiration dates."

Taking to Twitter, this subscriber reveals what he's discovered in the streaming platform's files. Several movies and shows on Disney+ currently have an expiry date set some time in 2020 and 2021 and according to the post, movies like the animated The Princess and the Frog expires much, much sooner on the site.

The Princess and the Frog is set to expire on November 25. This means the movie isn't going to last for more than three weeks on Disney's streaming service.

If what the Stitch Kingdom discovered really are expiry dates for Disney movies, then the Mickey Mouse House lied about keeping its movies in Disney+ forever. Before the streaming site launched, a spokesperson for Disney+ told fans that Disney wouldn't be offering a rotating slate of content as seen in rival sites like Netflix and Amazon.

According to the rep, all of Disney's movies on the site would enjoy staying in a permanent home.

"There will not be a 'rotating slate' of licensed movies each month," they said. "With Disney+, beloved classics from the Disney vault will now stream in a permanent home, including Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Cinderella, The Jungle Book, The Little Mermaid, and The Lion King - the entire thirteen film Signature Collection – all available on day one."

Of course, fans shouldn't be so alarmed by this new Disney+ discovery. Perhaps the date that was uncovered was simply placeholders for the film. Let's wait and see.

Disney+ is now available online.
