Disney Publishing Executive Confirms Lando Calrissian’s Child in Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker might have been busy bringing back fan-favorite characters like Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) and Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams), but the film didn't forget to bring a few new faces to the franchise as well. This included characters like spice-runner Zorri Bliss (Keri Russell) and Jannah (Naomi Ackie), a former First Oder stormtrooper like Finn (John Boyega).

Jannah helped in the fight against the Final Order, and at the end of The Rise of Skywalker, fans get to see the former stormtrooper sit down with Lando. The suave Resistance General asks Jannah whether she knows who her parents are, offering to assist the young woman when she says that she knows very little about her lineage.

Fans assumed that this scene was meant to tease viewers Lando was actually Jannah's father, and now, a Disney executive confirms just that.

Taking to Twitter, Jennifer Heddle the Executive Director for Disney Publishing's Star Wars novels, just recently revealed that Rae Carson's novelization of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker actually includes a plot thread confirming Lando as Jannah's father. Though the tie between the two wasn't made apparent in the film, Heddle says that the connection between the two will be fully discussed in the upcoming book.

"When peace reigned, [Lando] attempted to start a family, but tragedy struck and his infant daughter vanished," reads a selection taken from Lando's page in The Visual Dictionary for The Rise of Skywalker. "It was only later that it became clear who the culprits behind the abduction were: the First Order, building their fighting forces but also specifically striking at the old Alliance leadership."

This is a very interesting development. Lucasfilm might be done with the Skywalker saga, but perhaps the studio can continue telling Star Wars stories through the eyes of the Calrissian family? Let's wait and see.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
