Disney+ May Make It Difficult For Netflix To Raise Its Prices

It looks like Disney really is giving Netflix a run for its money with its upcoming streaming site, Disney+.

Not only is the Mickey Mouse House offering subscribers a pretty competitive offer with its site that promises to launch with 300 movies and 7000 episodes of television, but the company is also offering pretty competitive rates that could make it difficult for Netflix to raise its prices.

According to a new report by CNBC, Netflix's recent strategy of slowly raising prices once its subscriber base reaches a plateau might not really work when Disney+ launches later this year. The streaming site offers a vast majority of original content from major franchises like Star Wars and Marvel.

Lucasfilm isn't just working on Jon Favreau's upcoming series, Star Wars:The Mandalorian, but it's also working on a new Rogue One: A Star Wars Story prequel series focusing on Captain Cassian Andor (Diego Luna).

Meanwhile, Marvel is working on a slew of mini-series featuring Marvel heroes who never really got to star in their own standalone films like Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Scarlett Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Vision (Paul Bettany), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan).

On top of all that, Disney's also offering all of its old movies and series, along with access to National Geographic episodes for only for $6.99 per month. Disney is even offering a bundle of Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+, all for the price of $12.99.

It's going to be really hard for Netflix to beat that number. After all, the most common plan that Netflix offers runs at $13 per month. In order to remain competitive, Netflix would have to keep its price range or lower the number, all the while increasing original content.

It looks like there's going to be some pretty big changes soon.
