Disney+ is Launching With Only 3% of Netflix’s US Subscriber Base

Disney+ is launching today, however, while many would expect Star Wars and Marvel fans to flock to the streaming site in droves, analysts estimate that the Mickey Mouse House is only going to gain 3% of Netflix's US subscriber base during the site's very first day.

According to Business Insider, data from business analytics firm Jumpshot reveals that Disney+ has 1.9 million pre-orders set for the site's launch. That might seem like a lot for a brand new streaming site, however, the business news outlet reminds readers that Disney's main competition, Netflix, currently has about 60.6 million in the United States alone. The streaming giant's subscriber base in the other 150 countries that it offers its services to have not yet even been counted in that number.

The report also reveals that 34% of the 1.9 million subscribers of Disney already have at least one other streaming service subscription. This means that netizens aren't really ditching their old platforms for Disney+, but instead adding on the Mickey Mouse House's site to their list of site subscriptions.

Analysts are expecting millions more to sign up for Disney+ as the site continues – which isn't really a surprise considering all of the content that Disney plans to offer. Not only does the platform come with current Marvel and Star Wars movies, it has new shows as well.

Jon Favreau's new Star Wars series, The Mandalorian, premiered during Disney+'s launch today. Lucasfilm is planning two other shows – a Rogue One spinoff featuring Diego Luna's Captain Cassian Andor and an Obi-Wan Kenobi series featuring the return of Ewan McGregor.

Disney+ is currently available to subscribers in the US.
