Disney Is Introducing Its First Jewish Princess

Disney really is trying its best to take steps towards diversity and representation in its film and television divisions.

The Mickey Mouse House is breaking new ground later this year as the company plans to introduce its very first princess of Jewish heritage on the popular Disney Junior series, Elena of Avalor.

This week, word came out that Elena of Avalor would be featuring a special Hanukkah-themed episode later in December, and now, we're learning that the episode will introduce a brand new princess. This princess is going to come from a Latino Jewish Kingdom, and though the character's name has yet to be revealed, Walt Disney Television Animation News (a Twitter account that has no official connection to Disney) has revealed that the princess will be voiced by Jamie-Lynn Sigler from The Sopranos.

Taking to Twitter, Sigler decided to confirm the news, saying that she's fired up to voice the Mickey Mouse House's very first Jewish Princess.

This is pretty exciting news for Disney fans. The Mickey Mouse House has quite a roster of princesses, and yet, the studio has never really featured a Jewish princess before. It's a bit unfair though that the princesses in Elena of Avalor aren't really considered part of the "official" roster of branded princesses. We're hoping that Disney is going to try and introduce more Princesses of color and of other heritages in its official roster.
