Disney CEO Bob Iger Says Star Wars: Episode IX Will Be “Extremely Popular”

There was a whole lot of buzz when Lucasfilm dropped the very first teaser for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker during the 2019 Star Wars Celebration last month. Now, as fans continue to wait for more updates on the third and final sequel trilogy installment, Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger promises everyone that they're going to love what they'll see when Episode IX premieres later this year.

Disney just recently held a presentation at the Moffet Nathanson 6th Annual Media & Communications Summit (via ComicBook.com). There, Iger was asked to detail the future of the Star Wars franchise, including films like The Rise of Skywalker and all the various trilogies and television series that Lucasfilm has prepared for fans.

Speaking during the event, Iger reveals that he's already seen a whole lot of The Rise of Skywalker, promising that the film is going to be "extremely popular" wants it drops in December.

"It's our feeling that we've done a good job with [the Star Wars movies we've helped make]," Iger explained. "I haven't seen [The Rise of Skywalker] finished yet, but I'm confident, based off of the pieces that I've seen and the script that I read, that it's going to be extremely popular."

These sentiments are similar to John Williams. Earlier this week, the legendary composer revealed that he had seen a very early cut of the film and that he had been particularly pleased by what he had seen. In fact, he was so happy that he decided to write a couple of minutes for the film's score.

Hopefully, we'll get to see a bit of what Williams and Iger have seen when Lucasfilm releases The Rise of Skywalker's full trailer later this year.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
