Marvel fans were devastated when Netflix announced that it decided to cancel Marvel’s Daredevil. While many were already concerned about the future of Daredevil after the streaming site decided to ax Iron Fist and Luke Cage early in November, fans had strong hopes for the series. After all, many considered Daredevil one of the best shows Marvel TV had on Netflix.

Now after a long stretch of silence, it looks like Daredevil star Charlie Cox has finally decided to open up about the series cancellation. Talking about how everyone in the Daredevil team expected the show to go on, Cox confirms what series writer Tamara Becher-Wilkinson said back on Monday – everyone believed that the show was just way “too big to fail.”

Speaking in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Cox opens up about how terrible he felt after hearing about Daredevil’s cancellation.

"A lot of us really expected to keep going, and I certainly did," Cox admitted during the interview. "The truth is, I felt like we had a lot of stories to tell, and although I understand [the cancellation], I’m very saddened by that.”

While Cox understands that it’s all just business, he says that he hasn’t come to terms with the fact that he won’t be able to play Matt Murdock for Netflix ever again.

“That’s a bizarre feeling, because that character has been such a huge part of my life for the last four and a half years,” the actor admitted during the interview.

Despite all the disappointment that comes with Daredevil’s cancellation, fans are still hoping for another season of the series. Season 3 of the show was well-received by fans and critics alike, and so many continue to hold on to the hope that the series might get picked up by Disney’s streaming service set to launch in 2019. Let’s just keep our fingers crossed and wait and see.

Daredevil season 3 is available on Netflix.
