Daisy Ridley Actually Had Difficulty Wielding Lightsabers For Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Rey's (Daisy Ridley) a natural when it comes to the ways of the Force. Not only did the Force-sensitive Jakku orphan manage to learn how to do Jedi mind tricks on her own in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but the sequel trilogy's new hero also surprised Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) with her power and her abilities.

Even Luke (Mark Hamill) was impressed by Rey's raw strength and power in the most recent trailer for The Last Jedi. However, despite all her power as a Force user, Ridley says that swinging a lightsaber around is so much easier said than done.

Speaking in an interview with Vogue magazine (via Comicbook) about Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the young Star Wars actress decided to open up about the difficulty she had training for her role as Rey. Apparently, the actress had to take up some special training to get her moves right, holding up an extremely heavy lightsaber for practice.

"They're really heavy. Three, four, five, kilos? And the weight's very unevenly distributed," she revealed.

But even after getting used to the weight and balance of the prop, Ridley still found it difficult to swing it around for her scenes in the upcoming sequel trilogy installment.

"You do, like, eight thwacks one way, eight the other, eight up, eight down," the actress revealed her training regimen.

Lightsabers might be some of the most iconic science fiction weapons, but it seems like a lot of intensive physical training is required in order to wield one. Guess it's not easy becoming a Jedi.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres December 15, 2017.
