Could Disney be Giving Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker a Disney+ Early Release?

Seeing how the novel coronavirus has been affecting the entertainment industry, Disney decided to give Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker an early Digital HD release so that fans would be able to get a copy of the film.

A few days after the film's early Digital HD release, the House of Mouse decided to add Frozen 2 into its Disney+ roster, uploading the popular computer-animated movie on to its streaming site a few months earlier than it had intended.

Now that COVID-19 is forcing everyone to self-quarantine and stay at home, fans have begun wondering whether Disney would give The Rise of Skywalker an early Disney+ release, just like the studio did for Pixar's sequel to Frozen.

Unfortunately, it seems like Disney has yet to announce Episode IX's Disney+ release. According to a report by Newsweek, Disney-owned movies usually make their way to streaming services about seven or so months after their theatrical release. The Rise of Skywalker is expected to stream on Disney+ sometime this summer.

Of course, Disney could surprise fans by releasing the film early on its streaming site. Morale's been pretty low with the country under lockdown. The COVID-19 outbreak has had a major impact on the entertainment industry. Not only has it forced organizers to cancel major events like Emerald City Comic Con and the 2020 Electronic Entertainment Expo, but it's also forced studios to shut down the production of upcoming films and television series like James Cameron's Avatar sequels and Marvel's The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. It's also delayed the release of highly anticipated titles like Mulan and Black Widow.

With so many things going on, it would definitely come as a comfort for Disney to release Episode IX early on Disney+.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is available on Digital HD. The film is set for release on Blu-Ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on March 31.
