Could Another Fan-Favorite Cameo Make Its Way In Star Wars: Episode IX?

It looks like Billy Dee William's Lando Calrissian might not be the only one making his way back to the Star Wars franchise in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Vanity Fair dropped an entire spread on Episode IX last month, and not only did the entertainment news outlet's new piece give fans an extensive look at the story and characters of Lucasfilm's third and final sequel trilogy installment, it also gave away exclusive behind-the-scenes photos.

One of the photos featured Williams reprising his legendary role as Lando Calrissian. Back in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon together with Chewie and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), Lando looks as excited as ever. However, upon closer inspection, an eagle eyed fan managed to spot a hint at the arrival of a familiar character in the image.

Taking note of Lando's outfit, this fan spots Lando wearing a very familiar device – his wrist communicator from Empire Strikes Back. This wrist communicator is what Lando uses to activate and command his cyborg assistant, Lobot, in Cloud City. Could the appearance of the communicator mean that Lobot's going to appear in The Rise of Skywalker?

If so, then this is definitely exciting news for fans. Lobot hasn't been seen onscreen ever since the premiere of The Empire Strikes Back, though Chuck Wendig's Star Wars Aftermath: Empire's end revealed Lando and Lobot returning to Cloud City after the head of Cloud City's security forces was freed from the custody of the Empire.

We'll just have to wait and see whether the droid makes a cameo appearance or not.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
