Chris Pratt ‘Stands Behind’ James Gunn’s Return To Direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Avengers: Endgame is finally making its way to cinemas this weekend, and once it does, the film passes its mantle and turns Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 into Marvel's most highly anticipated film.

Now, speaking with People on the red carpet of Endgame's Hollywood premiere, Guardians of the Galaxy's Star-Lord actor Chris Pratt says that he's more than excited to see director James Gunn return to helm the upcoming film.

"I was so thrilled, so excited. I think it's the right move, I really stand behind it," Pratt told the entertainment news outlet "I'm really proud of Disney for hiring James back and ultimately thrilled for not only us, but also for the fans. I think it's going to wrap up the trilogy in the best way."

Gunn was fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 last year after an alt-right extremist dredged up the filmmaker's 14-year-old tweets that were both offensive and inappropriate in nature. While the director had long since apologized and re-apologized for the posts, Disney decided that it was best to let Gunn go, sparking a whole lot of controversy. Not only did fans support the director with their petitions, but Gunn's friends and co-workers also stood by his side. While Dave Bautista was one of the most vocal supporters of the director, Pratt was also one of those who though that Gunn didn't deserve being taken off the film.

Luckily, Disney rethought its decision, bringing back the director for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

"And Guardians of the Galaxy are really all about second chances and giving people an opportunity to be their best. We're a ragtag squad of people coming together and having each other's back. I think it really worked out the way it was supposed to, and I feel good about it," Pratt notes in his interview.

Of course, as exciting as it might sound to see the third and final film in the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, fans are going to have to wait as Gunn finishes his work on DC's Suicide Squad sequel.

Marvel's latest film, Avengers: Endgame, premieres on April 26, 2019.
