Captain Marvel’s Rotten Tomatoes Pre-Release Rating Lowest In the MCU

Captain Marvel might be one of the most highly anticipated films of the year, however, fans' excitement over the strongest Avengers' debut into the Marvel Cinematic Universe doesn't seem to show on Rotten Tomatoes.

Though Captain Marvel has yet to receive a critic score from the review aggregation site, Rotten Tomatoes says that only 55% out of 13,846 users actually want to see the film – a number that speaks against the hype building up over the upcoming Marvel movie.

This number, of course, shouldn't come as a surprise to fans. Earlier this week, Rotten Tomatoes posted early screening reviews for the film, and while some genuinely expressed excitement over Brie Larson's debut as Carol Danvers, many others flooded the site with angry "reviews." Not only do these users trash Captain Marvel for its tepid trailers, but they also go on ranting about the film promoting an agenda, complaining that the film focuses on a female superhero.

A number of comments call Captain Marvel a sexist Marvel entry for so many ridiculous reasons. Some users hate that Captain Marvel has to be female. Some protest Larson's campaign in sending underprivileged girls to see the film. Others complain that the film exudes too much of a "social justice warrior" kind of spirit.

Hopefully, these numbers and reviews don't bring Captain Marvel down. The film is set to be the first female-led standalone movie for Marvel, and we're hoping that the film succeeds so we get to see even more in the MCU.

Captain Marvel premieres on March 8, 2019.
