Captain Marvel Will Explain Nick Fury’s Backstory On How He Lost His Eye

There's a lot to expect from Brie Larson's Captain Marvel. Not only will Marvel Studios' very first female-led comic book movie introduce the strongest Avenger into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it'll also unravel one of the biggest mysteries in the franchise – how Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury lost his eye.

Entertainment Tonight just recently spoke with Jackson about Marvel's upcoming film and during the interview, the critically-acclaimed Pulp Fiction star opened up about how Captain Marvel would approach Nick Fury's back story. Not only will fans get to learn about Fury's early days in S.H.I.E.L.D. but they'll also get to learn how lost his eye.

"You'll see, specifically, the origin of what happened to his eye. You'll find out that he does have a family," Jackson told the entertainment news outlet. "You don't see them, but they are referenced in another way. There are things we talk about in his backstory that hasn't been talked about before -- where he's from, what he's done."

Though the former S.H.I.E.L.D. Director has been noticeably absent in the more recent films of the MCU, Fury was once a staple in the franchise, appearing in many of Phase 1 and Phase 2 films like Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Ever since the start of his career in the MCU, Fury's always had an eye patch on, and for the longest time ever fans have been wondering just what exactly happened to the S.H.I.E.L.D. director, especially when they learned in The Winter Soldier that trusting someone completely had cost him an eye.

Could that person have been Captain Marvel? Let's wait and see.

Captain Marvel premieres March 8, 2019.
