Captain Marvel Is Currently Tracking For Strong Chinese Box Office Opening

There's certainly a lot of excitement building up over Captain Marvel. Not only is the Marvel Studios entry tracking for more than $100 million at the domestic box office during its opeing weekend, but it looks like the Chinese box office opening numbers are doing pretty well too.

According to Chinese Box Office tracking account Galvin Feng, Captain Marvel is expected to make $75 to 85 million during its three day opening in China. That's about as strong as Captain America: Civil War, a Marvel movie which opened to about $96.7 million back in 2016.

The hype for Brie Larson's debut as Carol Danvers doesn't come as a surprise. Not only is the film set to introduce the Earth's strongest Avenger into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Captain Marvel also serves as Marvel Studio's very first female-led standalone movie.

However, despite the growing hype for Captain Marvel, there have been some concerns regarding backlash against the film. When the movie's first trailer dropped last year, some fans criticized Larson for the stoic expression on her fans, complaining that Carol Danvers wasn't smiling enough.

Last week, word came out that trolls were review bombing Captain Marvel on Rotten Tomatoes' "Want To See" audience review tab. While others expressed excitement over the film, some trolls went on and complained about how the film was pushing an agenda because it was focusing on a female superhero.

It's ridiculous what the internet can come with.

Still, nothing's going to stop Captain Marvel from succeeding.

Captain Marvel premieres on March 8, 2019.
