British Acting Legend Emma Thompson Once Tried To Appear In Star Wars

There are a lot of great actors that want to play a part in the Star Wars franchise, but the auditions can be difficult, and not everyone can make it into Lucasfilm's galaxy far, far away.

One of those who tried but failed to land a spot in the Star Wars franchise is British actress, screenwriter, activist, and commedianne, Emma Thompson. One of the most acclaimed actress in the UK, Thompson has won two Academy Awards, a Primetime Emmy Award, three BAFTA Awards and two Golden Globes. She's appeared in a lot of great films like 2003's Love Actually and in Saving Mr. Banks.

While Thompson already has a lot to be proud of, one of the actress' goals is to appear in a Star Wars movie. Apparently she tried to get into the galaxy far, far away before, with her agent looking for a role for her in the franchise. Unfortunately, the inquiry was rebuffed.

Thompson decided to open up about her Star Wars experience in her latest WIRED Autocomplete Interview together with her Late Night co-star, Mindy Kaling.

"I actually really like Star Wars," Thompson said, "I'm not in Star Wars because they don't want me to be in Star Wars.

If Lucasfilm does change its mind, however, Kaling believes that Thompson would make a great adviser for a budding Jedi. But the actress would want to be something else, joking that she could play Jabba's handmaiden.

"I could squeeze those frogs for him," Thompson jokes.

We're certain that there are better roles in the franchise. The only question is whether Lucasfilm would consider Thompson.

Lucasfilm's latest release Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set for release on December 20, 2019.
