Bob Iger Says Apple And Disney Could Have Merged Had Steve Jobs Lived

Disney might have just recently acquired 21st Century Fox, however, Disney CEO Bob Iger still believes that if Steve Jobs were alive, the company could have merged as well with Apple.

Vanity Fair just recently covered Iger's upcoming autobiography in a new article, and according to the entertainment news outlet, in the book, Disney's head honcho revealed that Disney would probably have had the chance of merging together with Apple had Steve Jobs not passed away.

As it turns out, Iger and Jobs had become good friends after Disney acquired Pixar back in 2006. Back then, Jobs was a majority shareholder of the company, and because of the merger, the Apple CEO was able to join Disney's board of directors. Five years after that, Iger was able to join Apple's board of directors as well.

"With every success the company has had since Steve's death, there's always a moment in the midst of my excitement when I think, I wish Steve could be here for this," Iger wrote in his autobiography, "It's impossible not to have the conversation with him in my head that I wish I could be having in real life. More than that, I believe that if Steve were still alive, we would have combined our companies, or at least discussed the possibility very seriously."

This comment from Iger seems to have come to light after the recent news regarding the Disney CEO's resignation from Apple's board of directors. Iger decided to leave Apple right after the company confirmed that it was going to launch its own streaming site, Apple TV+. Though Iger never really explained why he decided to leave his post (most likely because of a conflict of interest), the Disney CEO said that he was grateful to have served on Apple's board.

Right now, it's hard to imagine Disney taking on another major acquisition. The Mickey Mouse House mad a huge expansion by purchasing 21st Century Fox. We can't imagine what kind of power Disney would wield if it had merged with Apple as well.
