Black Widow Didn’t Get A Funeral In Avengers: Endgame Because Of Her Movie

Avengers: Endgame might have been nothing short of commercial and critical success, however, the film also found itself in a bit of a backlash when fans started noticing and comparing Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) with Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.).

While Black Widow certainly had a lot of screentime in Endgame, fans couldn't help but most of the spotlight was on Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.). Many questioned why Natasha didn't even get her own funeral in the film when Tony had a long tribute and a funeral in the movie.

Marvel released Endgame on Digital HD just recently, and during the commentary, co-director Joe Russo tried to explain why Tony received more attention than Black Widow. According to the filmmaker, Natasha didn't have a funeral because she had another film incoming. Tony, on the other hand, didn't have one. He was through.

"People have asked why Natasha didn't get the same amount of screen time post-death as Tony did," he said. "Well, Tony does not have another movie. Tony is done. And Natasha has another film. And Marvel Universe obviously does not have to move forward linearly anymore. But that character still has more screen time coming."

It does kind of make sense that the Russos would put more focus on Tony in the film. Iron Man is never going to make a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, not unless Marvel tries for a flashback in its future films.

Avengers: Endgame is currently available on Digital HD.
