Birds Of Prey’s Cassandra Cain Star Announces Beginning Of Production

It looks like Warner Brother has begun working on its upcoming Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) movie.

The DC Extended Universe's new Cassandra Cain, Ellay Jay Basco, just recently confirmed the start of production for Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). Posting on her official Twitter account, the young actress announced the start of Birds of Prey's principal photography, giving DC fans something to look forward to while waiting for Shazam! to make its big debut.

The post has since been deleted, but not before Screen Rant noticed the young actress making the announcement.

While Basco didn't reveal anything else outside the start of production, the announcement comes as big news. DC fans are excited to see Basco appear as Cassandra Cain. There have been numerous iterations of Batgirl in the Batman comics, and while Barbara Gordon has been the most popular version of the hero, Cassandra Cain has been one of the strongest fan-favorites. The daughter of assassins David Cain and Lady Shiva, Cassandra was deprived of human contact and speech so that she could focus on becoming the Earth's greatest assassin. The character was the first Batgirl to star in her own ongoing comic book series.

Set to debut in the DCEU's Birds of Prey, Basco is to star alongside franchise fan-favorite Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn) along with newcomers like Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Huntress) and Jumee Smollett-Bell (Black Canary). The DC heroines are going up against villains played by Ewan McGregor (Black Mask) and Chris Messina (Victor Zsasz).

Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is set to premiere Feb. 7, 2020.
