Ben Affleck Set To Reprise Batman Role For Justice League 2

DC fans weren't quite surprised when Ben Affleck announced his retirement from the DC Extended Universe. The DC actor was always shifting between staying and leaving the franchise, with multiple reports claiming that Affleck would hang up his cowl as the DCEU's Batman because of the failings of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.

Though Affleck is reportedly set to return to direct a possible film in the franchise, it's long since been understood that the actor is passing on his role as DC's Dark Knight to a younger actor more physically capable for the role. So it comes as a surprise to hear that Affleck is planning to put on the mask once again, this time for a Justice League sequel.

The news comes from a Variety article discussing Affleck's evolution in film. Talking about Affleck's films like Dazed and Confused, Good Will Hunting, and more recently, Triple Frontier, the article reveals that the actor is set to return to the DCEU.

Describing Affleck in Batman v Superman, Variety's reporter Daniel Nissen notes that "Affleck will be portraying the Dark Knight once again in the announced Justice League sequel."

As exciting as this might seem for Affleck's fans, we advise readers to take the report with a grain of salt. Sure, Variety might be a reputable site, but the news outlet could have simply made a mistake. Warner Brothers has yet to officially announce Justice League 2. The original film didn't do so well in cinemas, making it very unlikely for it to receive a sequel.

DC's next film, Shazam!, is set to premiere April 5, 2019.
