Avengers: Infinity War Had Almost Been Narrated Entirely By Thanos

Avengers: Infinity War had been Marvels' biggest film this year, culminating Marvel Studios ten years as a studio producing comic book movies. Not only did the film gather together so many superheroes in one place, but it also moved fans to tears when it had Thanos turn so many members of the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy into dust.

Now, with Avengers 4 on the way, Marvel directors Joe and Anthony Russo try to talk more about the secrets behind Infinity War with the Marvel fanbase. Speaking in a Question and Answer session with fans during Collider's special screening of Infinity War last night, the Russo Brothers were asked all sorts of questions about the film and the production behind it (via CBR). Giving away one of their early concepts, Joe revealed to fans that in one version of the film's script, Thanos narrated the entirety of Infinity War.

"We did three drafts of this that were all radically different," the director said.. "One draft involved Thanos as the narrator of the film. It was non-linear in structure, it had backstories for the Black Order, and they were all introduced in very cool sequences. But it ended up being a 250-page script and we thought, ‘Alright, we can't fit all of this storytelling.'"

In the end, Joe and Anthony changed the framing they used for Infinity War, though the narration did help the team understand more about the inner workings of Thanos' mind.

"I think writing out Thanos' narration gave us insight into who he was as a character and what we wanted him to do in this film. So then it was much easier once we started pulling all that out to make it subtext for him as a character, and to make a more linear structure," Joe went on.

Of course, it comes as no surprise to see that Infinity War was one narrated by Thanos. After all, he is the main character of The Russo's two-part Avengers movie. Now, with Avengers 4 on the way, fans can probably expect to learn more about the Mad Titan as Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans )and the rest of the Avengers try to undo Thanos' massacre.

Avengers 4 hits cinemas May 3, 2019.
