Avengers: Endgame’s Anthony Russo On Which Hero The Rock Should Play In The MCU

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's made a pretty big name for himself in Hollywood, taking on big roles in big franchises including The Fast and the Furious and Jumanji. Now that DC's released Shazam!, everyone's patiently waiting for The Rock to make his debut in the DC Extended Universe as Black Adam. Others are also hoping that Johnson makes his way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe too.

Speaking with MTV during the 2019 MTV Movie and TV Awards, Avengers: Endgame co-director Anthony Russo was asked to weigh in on The Rock's potential in the MCU, asking what role the wrestler turned actor could fit into the franchise. Russo seemed to have a clear vision for the actor. According to the filmmaker, the best superhero that The Rock could fit into is The Rock.

"The superhero that I would most like The Rock to play is The Rock. He is the best version of him," Russo responded.

It's a safe answer that might seem a bit disappointing to Marvel fans looking for something more concrete, but it does make sense. The Rock is a superhero in his own right. It would be fun seeing Johnson appearing as himself in the MCU. It might even make or a funny cameo.

Thor: Ragnarok had a lot of great celebrity cameos. We're sure future MCU films could do the same with The Rock. It would also make sense for the actor to play himself – we're not quite sure the actor could actually play a Marvel superhero given his commitment to the DCEU.

Avengers: Endgame is currently screening in cinemas.
