Avengers: Endgame Directors Admit To Manipulating Trailer Footage To Avoid Spoilers

Marvel fans shouldn't trust any of the trailers for Avengers: Endgame. While the promotional videos for the film give fans a gist of what's to come in the follow-up to Avengers: Infinity War, directors Joe and Anthony Russo have admitted that they manipulated Endgame's trailer footage in an attempt to keep spoilers at bay.

Speaking in an interview with Empire Magazine (via ComingSoon.net), the Russo Brothers talk about crafting a carefully measured marketing campaign for Endgame. The directors excuse their trailer manipulation by explaining that fans have a tendency to scrutinize everything that they see, so they have to be extra careful about the things they put in.

According to Joe, he and his brother "use all the material that we have at our disposal to create a trailer. We look at the trailer as a very different experience than the movie, and I think audiences are so predictive now that you have to be very smart about how you craft a trailer because an audience can watch a trailer and basically tell you what's gonna happen in the film."

But that's not all. The Russos go as far as manipulating the footage by using CG.

"We consume too much content. So at our disposal are lots of different shots that aren't in the movie that we can manipulate through CG to tell a story that we want to tell specifically for the purpose of the trailer and not for the film," the director explains further.

This shouldn't come as a surprise to Marvel fans. Marvel Studios usually keeps a tight lid on its projects, and last year the studio was especially careful with Infinity War. In fact, the studio was so careful that the Russos have to use various methods of trickery to keep fans from spoiling themselves.

Avengers: Endgame premieres April 26, 2019.
